Description

This is the perfect course to start to learn basic French. This course is aimed at anyone who would like to learn conversational French starting with French basics.
By the end of the course you will understand and hold simple conversations
following a structure. The course will introduce everyday language skills, reading comprehension, writing, listening comprehension and speaking through a range of activities. Whether you want to learn a new language, assist you in work or on holiday this course is suitable for all beginners.  

Who is this course for?
Learners who are over 19 years of age and possess a keen interest in learning to read and speak basic French. This course is for complete beginners.

Course aims
This is an introductory course to French, designed to allow you to communicate in everyday situations when travelling to French-speaking countries. You will cover the following topics: - Recognising colours - Identifying animals - Describing family members - Ordering drinks - Using numbers up to 100 - Giving simple opinions By the end of this course you will recognise and use colours in French. You will use simple adjectives to describe animals and people (e.g., colours/tall/short etc.) and follow the rules for adjectival agreement (masculine/feminine/singular/plural). You will be able to identify the correct use of ‘my’ in French. You will be able to order a variety of drinks in a café or bar and offer and accept drinks socially. You will use numbers in the context of pricing and build up your recognition and use of key question words in the context of ordering drinks. You will be able to give simple opinions (e.g., like/dislike etc.). You will use your growing knowledge of phonics to pronounce new words independently.

How will the course be delivered?
This is a practical course and the sessions will include tutor-led demonstrations, learner-led group activities, instruction and repetition. These will form part of the delivery together with one-to-one support as required.

Will I need to study or practise outside the classroom?
You will be expected to review your notes between lessons to ensure maximum benefit from your course. It is always useful to practise your skills between sessions. Your tutor may encourage home learning, or independent research.

How will I know I’m making progress?
Your tutor will set objectives for each session and give feedback on how you are progressing. You will agree personal targets as part of your Individual Learning Plan (ILP), and you will review your targets throughout the course to check your own progress.

What will I need for the course?
Please bring a notepad, and pen to each session. You may wish to bring a file for any handouts. A laptop with internet access is required for completion of coursework and home learning outside of the classroom. Please note that food and drink are not permitted to be consumed in the classroom. You may bring a bottle of water with a lid with you if required.
