Everyone! There are no entry requirements as this course is for complete beginners. People with a limited amount of knowledge on the subject may join this course to refresh their knowledge.

Course aims
Acquire knowledge of key historical events, figures, and cultural developments relevant to the local community through readings, lectures, and guided discussions. Develop research skills, including how to locate primary and secondary sources, evaluate the credibility and reliability of historical information, and cite sources accurately. Gain proficiency in interpreting and analysing historical evidence, including documents, artifacts, maps, photographs, and oral histories, to construct well-supported historical narratives. Cultivate an appreciation for the significance of local history in shaping community identity, heritage tourism, urban planning, and public memory, and understand the ethical responsibilities of historians in interpreting and presenting the past accurately.

Qualification
You will not gain a qualification - but this course is Digitally Badged so that you can evidence completion on your CV and job applications.

How will this course be delivered?
This is a mainly theory course with some practical aspects.

Will I need to study or practise outside the classroom?
It is always useful to practise your skills between sessions. But there is no formal requirement to do so.

How will I know I'm making progress?
During the first session, your tutor will discuss your goals and current level in relation to the course. Based on this assessment, you will agree individual targets which you will record in your individual learning plan (ILP). You and your tutor will review your targets regularly to ensure that you are making progress; these will be written in your individual learning plan.

What will I need for the course?
