Description
This course provides the learner with an introduction to children and young people's mental health by identifying risk factors associated with mental health conditions, as well as identifying signs and symtoms indicated through children and young people's behaviour. This short course is perfect for parents and carers, or those working closelty with the in early years care or education settings.
Who is this course for?
Over 19s who wish to gain employment in the health and social care sector, or are already employed and are looking to upskill.

No previous knowledge or skills are required
Course aims
Learners will have reflected on their own and their families mental health,
* will be able to recognise risk factors and protective factors;
* begin to identify children’s and young people’s concerns and be aware of indicating behaviours;
* have 2 new ideas for supporting young people/family members at home.
How will the course be delivered?
This is a mainly theory course with some practical elements.
Will I need to study or practise outside the classroom?
You will be expected to review your notes between lessons to ensure maximum benefit from your course.
How will I know I'm making progress?
During the first session, your tutor will discuss your goals and current level in relation to the course. Based on this assessment, you will agree individual targets which you will record in your individual learning plan (ILP). You and your tutor will review your targets regularly to ensure that you are making progress; these will be written in your individual learning plan.
What will I need for the course?
Please bring a pen and notepad. Full commitment and willingness to reflect on skills, and engage with some abstract concepts of counselling is essential.
