This qualification is designed to allow learners to understand the role of a mentor and be aware of the
skills needed to become an effective mentor.
Qualification objectives
The objectives of this qualification are to help learners to:
• gain insight into the role and practice of mentorship
• be clear about mentor/mentee relationships
• ensure they follow good practice
• be aware of the specific skills and understanding they will require in order to mentor
• review own learning and work performance.

Who is this course for?
Learners who are over 19 years of age, who are interested in learning about mentoring and would benefit from a Level 1 qualification.

There are no specific entry requirements for this course.

Course aims
This qualification is ideal for anyone already working in a mentoring role or those wishing to develop their knowledge of this area for volunteering, employment or interest. Learners will gain an insight and understanding of the role of a mentor and an awareness of the specific skills and understanding required to become an effective mentor. You will complete the following units: - Understanding the role of the mentor; - Preparing for the role of a mentor; - Demonstrating mentoring skills; Learners will complete a workbook alongside their course to achieve the qualification.

Qualification
NCFE Level 1 Award in Mentoring. Assessment is the process of measuring a learner’s skill, knowledge and understanding against the standards set in a qualification. The NCFE Level 1 Award in Mentoring is internally assessed and externally quality assured. Unit 01 Role of a mentor (Level 1) or Unit 02 Role of a mentor (Level 2) and Unit 03 Preparing for the role of a mentor; Unit 04 Demonstrating mentoring skills;

How will the course be delivered?
You will be working with your tutor and other learnrers face to face.

Will I need to study or practise outside the classroom?
You will be expected to review your notes between lessons to ensure maximum benefit from your course. It is always useful to practise your skills between sessions. Your tutor may encourage home learning, or independent research.

How will I know I’m making progress?
During the first session, your tutor will discuss your goals and current level in relation to the course. Based on this assessment, you will agree individual targets which you will record in your individual learning plan (ILP). You and your tutor will review your targets regularly to ensure that you are making progress; these will be written in your individual learning plan.

What will I need for the course?
Please bring a notepad, and pen to each session. You may wish to bring a file for any handouts. A laptop with internet access is required for completion of coursework and home learning outside of the classroom. Please note that food and drink are not permitted to be consumed in the classroom. You may bring a bottle of water with a lid with you if required.
