This course is designed for learners looking to increase their knowledge and
awareness of mental health. It will help the learner to develop their awareness of
issues surrounding mental health and to know the rights of those with mental health
issues.  

Who is this course for?
Learners who are over 19 years of age, who have been resident in the EU for a minimum of 3 years, and possess a keen interest in learning about mental health issues.

Before you enrol on this course

Course Aims
This course aims to raise awareness of the issues surrounding mental health difficulties; dispel some of the myths and misconceptions frequently linked to mental health issues, and develop learners' knowledge of the rights of those with mental health issues. You will cover: What is meant by the term 'Mental Health', and 'Mental-Ill Health'. The definition and causes of mental health difficulties. Common perceptions of mental health difficulties and how stereotyping can affect people's perceptions. Where appropriate support can be sought.

Entry requirements
There are no entry requirements. This course is for anyone with an interest in mental health. People with some knowledge on the subject may join this course to develop their understanding.

How will I learn?
During the first session, your tutor will discuss your goals and current level in relation to the course. Based on this assessment, you will agree individual targets which you will record in your individual learning plan. This is a classroom based course and the sessions will include tutor-led demonstrations, learner-led group activities, discussions, instruction and exam preparation. These and other teaching and learning methods will form part of the delivery together with one-to-one support as required.

How will I know I'm making progress?
At the beginning of the session, your tutor will share with you the objectives of the day, which will give you an opportunity to think about your individual aims for the session. At the end of the session, you will have time to share your experience and reflect on what you learned.

Will I need to study or practise outside the classroom?
You will be expected to review your notes between lessons to ensure maximum benefit from your course. It is always useful to practise your skills between sessions. Your tutor may encourage home learning, or independent research.

What will I need for the course?
Please bring a notepad, and pen to each session. You may wish to bring a file for any handouts. A laptop with internet access is required for completion of coursework and home learning outside of the classroom. Please note that food and drink are not permitted to be consumed in the classroom. You may bring a bottle of water with a lid with you if required.
