A beginner's guide to foraging for wild ingredients in the UK. Foraging responsibly and discovering the world of wild food is one of the simplest and most effective ways to reconnect with nature.  

Who is this course for?
This course is aimed at anyone who wants to forage in a sustainable way and save money. To access this course we will need to know your current level of maths skills, this will be done using a mini assessment. The aim is to enable you to progress on to a qualiification. This course is funded through a government programme, called Multiply, to help adults improve their numeracy skills. Good numeracy skills may unlock job opportunities and lead to higher wages or prepare for further study. They also help in everyday life, such as helping children with homework and budgeting money. These courses are for adults aged 19+

You will be invited to undertake an initial assessment to ascertain your levels of English and maths prior to entry on this course of study.

Entry requirements
No previous knowledge or skills are required. Learners must be over the age of 19 and without a level 2 qualification in maths.

Course aims
Understand the concept of sustainable foraging and its importance for ecological balance. Identify sustainable foraging practices and their benefits such as saving money. Understand the maths involved with foraging, such as probability. Develop skills for responsible and ethical foraging.

How will the course be delivered?
This is a practical course and the sessions will include tutor-led demonstrations, learner-led group activities, instruction and repetition. These will form part of the delivery together with one-to-one support as required.

Will I need to study or practise outside the classroom?
You will be expected to review your notes between lessons to ensure maximum benefit from your course.You will be expected to practice the skills learnt in your day to day life.

How will I know I'm making progress?
During the first session, your tutor will discuss your goals and current level in relation to the course. Based on this assessment, you will agree individual targets which you will record in your individual learning plan (ILP). You and your tutor will review your targets regularly to ensure that you are making progress; these will be written in your individual learning plan.

What will I need for the course?
Please bring a pen and notepad. Full commitment and willingness to participate and engage with your own learning.
