There are no entry requirements, this course is for complete beginners. People with a limited amount of knowledge on the subject may join this course to refresh their knowledge.
Course aims
To introduce families to the exciting intersection of mathematics and card games. To provide a fun and engaging environment for families to learn and explore mathematical concepts together. Objectives: Understand basic mathematical principles such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division through interactive card games. Explore mathematical patterns and relationships within card decks to enhance problem-solving skills. Develop strategic thinking and decision-making abilities by applying mathematical concepts to card game strategies. Foster collaborative learning and communication among family members through teamwork and shared experiences. Encourage curiosity and creativity in exploring mathematical concepts beyond traditional classroom settings. Promote the enjoyment of learning mathematics through hands-on activities and interactive gameplay.
How will the course be delivered?
This is a practical course and the sessions will include tutor-led demonstrations, learner-led group activities, instruction and repetition. These will form part of the delivery together with one-to-one support as required.
Will I need to study or practise outside the classroom?
It is always useful to practise your skills between sessions. But there is no formal requirement to do so.
How will I know I'm making progress?
At the beginning of the session, your tutor will share with you the objectives of the day, which will give you an opportunity to think about your individual aims for the session. At the end of the session, you will have time to share your experience and reflect on what you learned.
What will I need for the course?
Please bring a pen and notepad.
