Who is this course for?
Learners who are over 19 years of age and possess a keen interest in gaining an understanding of Autism Spectrum Disorder. These courses are an ideal first step for those wanting to gain a Level 2 qualification and may be particularly useful for those working in the voluntary and community sectors.

Previous L1 Maths and English achievement or demonstrating the ability to work at these levels is recommended.

Course Aims
This qualification aims to develop learners understanding of autism and the principles of supporting individuals with autism, covering the person centred approach and influence of positive communication methods and how individuals with autism can be supported to live healthy and fulfilled lives.

Qualification
NCFE Level 2 Certificate in Understanding Autism. Autism is described by The National Autistic Society as a complex, lifelong developmental disability that typically appears during early childhood and can impact a person's social skills, communication, relationships, and self-regulation. Individual preference regarding terminology used for an individual on the autism spectrum may vary and must be valued and respected. To be awarded the Level 2 Certificate in Understanding Autism, learners are required to successfully complete 6 mandatory units: * Unit 01 Introduction to autism; * Unit 02 Using a person-centred approach to support individuals with autism; * Unit 03 Communication and social interaction in individuals with autism; * Unit 04 Sensory processing, perception and cognition in individuals with autism; * Unit 05 Supporting positive behaviour in individuals with autism; * Unit 06 Supporting individuals with autism to live healthy and fulfilled lives. To achieve learners must successfully demonstrate achievement of all learning outcomes and it is internally assessed.

How will the course be delivered?
This is an E-Learning course and is exclusively delivered via an online learning, self-study programme. You will be enrolled for an online learning platform and will work independently through the units and materials provided.

What will I need to bring?
A laptop or desktop computer with internet access is required for completion of coursework and home learning

Will I need to study or practise outide the classroom?
Your study pattern is self-managed, but a commitment of 2 - 3 hours per week is suggested to enable successful completion of the course within the timescale of 20 weeks.

How will I know I am progressing?
You will receive regular feedback from an assessor following completion and submission of individual units You will also receive weekly updates of progress as well as any outstanding items.
