This qualification provides an introduction to neuroscience in the early years; from birth to seven years.
Self-regulation in the early years is a critical set of skills that help children to remain calm, attentive, and
able to deal with powerful emotions such as fear, anger, and sadness. Children are not born with these
skills; they develop them over time when they are supported to understand their feelings and actions by
caring and responsive adults. This qualification covers key factors that may affect development in children,
such as stress, adverse childhood experiences, and special educational needs and disabilities..  

Who is this course for?
This qualification's aim is to provide an introduction to the early development of the brain in babies and young children from birth to 7 years of age. It looks at how the social brain develops, the limbic system and self-regulation.

Entry requirements
There are no entry requirements for this course. No previous experience of working in an early years setting is required.

Qualification
NCFE Level 2 Award in An Introduction to Neuroscience in Early Years. There are 2 mandatory units, both units are internally assessed. *Understanding Neuroscience in Early Years; *Understanding Self-Regulation and How to Nurture This in Children From Birth to Seven Years.

How will this course be delivered?
You will be working with your tutor and other students online on Microsoft Teams. This will involve a regular video meeting every week, using the Microsoft Teams app, with supporting learning resources in the virtual classroom. We will supply you with a login and password when you enrol, and we can provide telephone support to help you to get into the virtual classroom on your computer.

How will I know I'm making progress?
Your tutor will set objectives for each session and give feedback on how you are progressing. You will agree personal targets as part of your Individual Learning Plan (ILP), and you will review your targets throughout the course to check your own progress.

Will I need to study or practise outside the classroom?
Learners will be required to complete two written mandatory units to achieve this qualification.

What will I need to take to the course?
You will need either a computer with Microsoft Teams or a Smart device (phone/tablet) with the Microsoft Teams application and access to the Internet. Please bring a pen and notepad to each session.

Progression
Learners could progress to the following qualifications: * Level 2 Diploma for the Early Years Practitioner; * Level 3 Certificate in Preparing to Work in Early Years Education and Care.
