This course is perfect for anyone that needs help to use a digital device like their smartphone or tablet. It will explore how to use apps and online safety.  

Who is this course for?
Learners who are over 19 years of age, and possess a keen interest in enhancing their knowledge, understanding and experience in using digital equipment such as mobile phones or tablets. This course is for complete beginners.

Course Aims
Do you need to learn how to use your smart phone, tablet or computer? This course will give you the basic digital skills you need in today’s online world with how to use digital equipment. You will learn how to stay safe online, how to communicate online using email, Word, and video communication software (Zoom) and web pages, you will practise online transactions that will allow you to access goods and services (shopping, NHS, DWP and travel information) and you will practise problem solving skills using online resources. Whether it is a smartphone, tablet, iPad, laptop or computer the first steps can be taken to explore the world of digital technology. You will: - Use a range of applications. - Understand online safety. - Develop a knowledge of different types of software including Microsoft and Google.

How will the course be delivered?
This is a practical course and the sessions will include tutor-led demonstrations, learner-led group activities, instruction and repetition. These will form part of the delivery together with one-to-one support as required.

Will I need to study or practise outside the classroom?
You will be expected to review your notes between lessons to ensure maximum benefit from your course. It is always useful to practise your skills between sessions. Your tutor may encourage home learning, or independent research.

How will I know I’m making progress?
During the first session, your tutor will discuss your goals and current level in relation to the course. Based on this assessment, you will agree individual targets which you will record in your individual learning plan (ILP). You and your tutor will review your targets regularly to ensure that you are making progress; these will be written in your individual learning plan.

What will I need for the course?
Please bring a notepad, and pen to each session. You may wish to bring a file for any handouts. A laptop with internet access is required for completion of coursework and home learning outside of the classroom. Please note that food and drink are not permitted to be consumed in the classroom. You may bring a bottle of water with a lid with you if required.
