Description

This is an introductory course to Italian, designed to allow you to communicate in everyday situations when travelling to Italian-speaking countries.

You will cover the following topics:
- Asking about and ordering snacks
- Ordering a meal
- Commenting on the food
- Talking about past events

By the end of this course you will be able to ask about and order specific snacks and items from a menu. You will be able to give reasons for their choices and opinions about the food. You will respond to past tense questions (e.g., ‘have you chosen'/ ‘finished') in the context of eating.

You will understand the formation of a key past tense of regular verbs and start to use this. You will recognise this past tense in all persons for regular verbs and start to recognise some common irregular verbs in the past tense.

Entry Requirements
This course is for those who have completed the Italian Beginners Term 5 course or who have some experience of Italian. To confirm your level please see the Languages Self-Assessment tool in the downloads section of our website.

How will the course be delivered?
You will be working with your tutor and other students online in a Google Classroom. This will involve a regular video meeting every week, using the Google Meets app, with supporting learning resources in the virtual Google Classroom. We will supply you with a login and password when you enrol, and we can provide telephone support to help you to get into the virtual classroom on your computer.

Will I need to study or practise outside the classroom?
It is always useful to practice your skills between sessions. Your tutor may set some home learning for you to practice.

How will I know I’m making progress?
Your tutor will set objectives for each session and give feedback on how you are progressing. You will agree personal targets as part of your Individual Learning Plan (ILP), and you will review your targets throughout the course to check your own progress.

What will I need for the course?
You will need either a computer with Google Chrome or a Smart device (phone/tablet) with Google Chrome and the Google Meet apps installed and access to WIFI. There are additional resources required for the course at an approximate cost of £10. Information will be provided at course induction. Please bring a pen and notepad to each session.
