Our basic carpentry courses are ideal for beginners who wish to learn the essentials of carpentry.  

Material fee
Material Fee £20.00 (included in above cost) The material fees cover glue and sundries. You will be required to provide your own timber.

Who is this course for?
This course is for anyone with an interest in carpentry or DIY.

Entry requirements
There are no entry requirements, this course is for complete beginners. People with a limited amount of knowledge on the subject may join this course to refresh their knowledge.

Course aims
During this creative craft course, you will learn how to use a range of carpentry tools and safe working practices within the workshop. You will be supported to design, create and complete a basic carpentry project, under the direction of your tutor. Topics covered on the course will include: Identification of tools and materials. - Tool maintenance - Use of glue and fixings - Basic woodworking joints - Selection of appropriate timber

How will the course be delivered?
This is a practical course and the sessions will include tutor-led demonstrations, learner-led activities, instruction and repetition. These will form part of the delivery together with one-to-one support as required.

Will I need to study or practise outside the classroom?
You will be expected to practise skills and prepare and plan for future sessions. Your tutor will give you guidance on group and individual topics.

How will I know I'm making progress?
Your tutor will set objectives for each session and give feedback on how you are progressing. You will agree personal targets as part of your Individual Learning Plan (ILP), and you will review your targets throughout the course to check your own progress.

What will I need for the course?
- You will need suitable clothing and closed in footwear - There are additional resources required for the course. Information will be provided at course induction - Please bring a pen and notepad to each session
