Description

The learners will challenge their culinary skills by creating a unique dish using a set of predetermined ingredients. They will develop critical thinking, problem-solving, and teamwork skills while exploring their creativity in the kitchen.  

Who is this course for?
This course is for people who are interested in improving their skills in creating tasty food on a budget. It is funded through the Multiply project, a new government-funded programme to help adults improve their numeracy skills. Good numeracy skills may unlock job opportunities and lead to higher wages or prepare for further study. They also help in everyday life, such as helping children with homework and budgeting money. These courses are for adults aged 19+ who do not already have a GCSE at grade 4/C (or equivalent) in maths.

Entry requirements
Learners must be over the age of 19 and without a level 2 qualification in maths.

You will be invited to undertake an initial assessment to ascertain your levels of English and maths prior to entry on this course of study.

Course aims
You will learn how to become confident in the kitchen using a range of equipment, calculate recipes on a budget and understand food safety. In The first week you will learn some food preparation techniques and about how to Challenge the Cook. In the following weeks you will be asked to Challenge the Cook with your own 5 ingredients on the lowest budget possible. Suprise the Cook with your ideas and let him show you how to create amazing budget friendly meals using staple ingredients each week. Eggs, Pasta, Rice, Mince and vegetarian or vegan options will be included as staple ingredients.

How will the course be delivered?
Course shall be delivered via a face to face tutorials and self study in a space suitable for cooking food.

Will I need to study or practise outside the classroom?
You will be expected to find ingredients that you want to bring to "Challenge the Cook" between classes and it may help to review your notes between lessons to ensure maximum benefit from your course. It is always beneficial to practise your skills at home.

How will I know I'm making progress?
Your tutor will set objectives for each session and give feedback on how you are progressing. You will agree personal targets as part of your Individual Learning Plan (ILP), and you will review your targets throughout the course to check your own progress.

What will I need for the course?
Please bring a pen and notepad.
