Course Summary
The awarding body for this qualification is AQA. This course will follow the Combined Science- Trilogy Specification. The Course will lead to you achieving the equivalent of 2 GCSE’s at grades 9-9 to 1-1 and can support with entry to a huge range of further learning, apprenticeships and employment including STEM roles, care, health, teaching, engineering, manufacturing and many more.

Enrolment requirements
We regret we are unable to accept under 19s on most of our courses due to Education and Skills Funding Agency funding restrictions. You need to be 19 before 1 September 2025 to enrol. This means you will have been born on or before 31 August 2006. What will I learn?
The course will be practical based with theory being linked to practical activities. You will study 6 units during the course, 2 in each subject area. You will study a variety of topics from Biology, Chemistry and Physics as follows: Biology Unit 1. Cell biology, Organisation, Infection and response, Bioenergetics Biology Unit 2. Homeostasis and response, Inheritance, variation and evolution, Ecology Chemistry Unit 1. Atomic structure and the periodic table, Bonding, structure and properties of matter, Quantitative chemistry, Chemical change, Energy change Chemistry Unit 2. Rate and extent of chemical change, Organic chemistry, Chemical analysis, Using resources Physics Unit 1. Energy, Electricity, Particle model of matter, Atomic structure Physics Unit 2. Forces, Waves, Magnetism and electromagnetism.

How will I be assessed?
There will be 6 examinations between May and June 2026, these dates are set externally and you must attend. Dates will be confirmed in the autumn term. Each of the exams is focused on one unit and each exam is 1 hour and 15 minutes long. Results are released on the national GCSE results day in August. Your tutor will tell you the exam dates at the start of the course. There will also be regular assessments and mock exams for you to track your progress.

How will the course be delivered?
This is a practical course, and the sessions will include tutor-led demonstrations, learner-led group activities, instruction and repetition. These will form part of the delivery together with one-to-one support as required.

Will I need to practise outside the classroom?
You will be encouraged to review your notes between lessons to ensure maximum benefit from your course. It is always useful to practise your skills between sessions. Your tutor may encourage home learning, or independent research.

How will I know I'm making progress?
During the first session, your tutor will discuss your goals and current level in relation to the course. Based on this assessment, you will agree individual targets which you will record in your individual learning plan (ILP). You and your tutor will review your targets regularly to ensure that you are making progress; these will be written in your individual learning plan.

What will I need?
Please bring a notepad, and pen to each session. You may wish to bring a file for any handouts. A laptop with internet access is required for completion of coursework and home learning outside of the classroom.
